I was lucky enough to be chosen to review the Pippi Pinafore from Jennifer Lauren. I honestly don’t think I have ever worn a pinafore before (that I remember) so its not a style I naturally gravitate to, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised!
I used some wool fabric that I scored from an Instagram destash account. Its a gorgeous teal-blue colour, and very hard to capture the true colour in a photograph.
I graded the pattern from over 3 sizes from my bust to waist (classic pear). I was a little worried about how it was all going to come together with the bib essentially being a different size to the skirt, but it turned out well.
Some of the things that really set this pattern apart are the different cup sizes for the bib. Its probably just me, but I hate seeing bibs on overalls (dungarees) and pinafores that are too small for the wearers bust. So needless to say I really appreciated being able to make it to fit me, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. The other thing I’m 100% in love with is the gorgeous deep pockets!! I’m really into the squarish-sew-on-top (I’m sure there is a more technical name for them) pockets. They look great and are deep enough to hold a whole ton of stuff (ask me how I know!)
The pattern instructions are so well written and illustrated I didn’t once have a “huh?” head-scratching moment (which is big for me!) It was a very satisfying sew.
A change I made to the pattern was to have the straps button directly to the bib instead of folding over on themselves. No real reason for this except personal preference (and I absolutely love the buttons and wanted to show them off a little more)
I also lengthened the skirt by 2 inches, and the bib by 1 inch. I’m 5’9 and was aiming to have it hit just below my knee. If I make this again, I think I’ll definitely length it just by 1/2 inch to make it perfect.
Thank you for letting me review your pattern Jennifer Lauren Handmade! I really love my new pinafore.
This pattern was provided to me for free for review, but all opinions are my own 🙂
You’ve got a lovely fabric and nice work with the alterations! Definitely a fine addition to your wardrobe!

The fabric is beautiful – one of my favourite colours!
I like that the bib is sized differently for different cup sizes. I love pinafores and dungarees, but have a big chest. Great to know there’s a pattern out there that caters for someone like me.
